The Vignelli Designer Biography featured presentation of 24 cohesive slides, a collateral handout, and a book cover prototype built for ‘Designer Bio Talks’ showcase at the University of Notre Dame. Talk covered the history, work, and impact of Massimo Vignelli (1931-2014).
The presentation and handout were designed in InDesign, applying many of Vignelli’s principles and styles. The book cover was designed in Photoshop, incorporating Vignelli’s acclaimed New York Subway map redesign with a sleek overlay, recognizing his impact in the history of product design.
The keynote presentation accompanied a 15 minute 'Designer Bio' talk covering the life and contributions of Massimo Vignelli and his wife Lella Vignelli. The presentation itself serves as a tribute to his lasting stylistic impact, conforming to the rules and style of his 'Vignelli Canon'.
Audience members were provided a small two-sided handout covering key takeaways of Vignelli's principles of design as well as a summary of some of the couple's most prominent or experimental works.
The final part of the project involved designing a book cover for a biography about the designer in a modern interpretation of the designer's own principals. The cover featured a minimalist reference to Vignelli's lasting mark on the New York public transit system as well as nods to both Massimo's 'Vignelli Canon' and the product design of Lella Vignelli.
