'Roots'

  • Role: Design & installation
  • Date: April 2016
  • Course: 3D Foundations at the University of Notre Dame

'Roots' is a two-part paper sculpture portraying the side-portrait of an anonymous young man. The trunk part signifies the layered, organic, depth of identity while the ‘metal slab’ signifies a stripped down, surface level iteration of same simplified identity.

The composition was designed in Photoshop and Illustrator and built entirely out of paper, cardboard, ink, adhesive, and paint. Trunk constructed in multiple stacked layers to create sense of depth of identity. ‘Metal slab’ painted using a stencil of same portrait to portray the opposite feeling of reproducibility.
