This project features symbolform and process book designed to cohesively fit the existing Washington National Zoo way finding system by Bill Cannon and Lance Wyman in 1973.
The symbolform vector was designed in Illustrator with an emphasis on key animal traits geometrically rendered in a black and white side-portrait. The process book was designed in InDesign using a limited color palette, grid layout, geometric mountain motifs, and scientific organization of information.
A 20 page process book was designed to accompany the symbolform. It discusses the history of zoos and symbol sets, background on the Washington National Zoo, and the process of designing a new cohesive symbolform for the extinct Pyrenean Ibex. The book can be viewed in an e-reader here.
